Events in and around Gloucestershire
There are many great events that happen in Gloucestershire, from the Literature Festival (9th - 18th October 2009), to The Festival - The Gold Cup, Cheltenham is after all the home of the National Hunt. You could just come for the weekend and enjoy the increasingly popular café culture and the great shopping to be had in the town.
Slightly further a field is the annual (May Bank Holiday's) Cheese Rolling, where brave participants hurl them down a very steep hill to the south of Cheltenham after a Cheese, a spectacle to be watched and probably not partaken in.
Scattered around Gloucestershire are many Stately Homes and Castles, from Sudeley Castle some 5 miles away to Dyrham Park near Chippenham which is '...an odd mix of French, Dutch, and Italianate styles set in parkland with formal gardens and water features...' and the famous Snowshill Manor which is 'A maze of rooms crammed full of the decidedly eclectic (and eccentric) collections of Charles Paget Wade'
